Arlene Smith , of West Lafayette & formerly of Otterbein, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023. She was born June 25, 1931, in rural Illinois to the late Lawrence & Barbara (Pitstick) Leuck. She attended St. Mary's School in Dunnington, IN & graduated from Ambia High School in 1949. After high school she worked at the Corn Belt Hatchery, where she met her future husband, Stewart Smith. They were married on November 3, 1951, in Fowler & were together for over 57 years; until Stewart passed away, September 4, 2009. She also worked for O'Rear's Pastry & Fannie May Candies. But her favorite job was selling Avon products where she was a Rep for over 50 years winning numerous awards during that time.

They lived Boswell, IN before moving to Pine Creek Farm & then West Lafayette, IN. They finally moved to Otterbein, IN where she lived until 2015. Arlene moved to Friendship House Community & lived there for 8 years before moving to Cumberland Pointe, in 2023.

Arlene was an active member of Saint Charles Church in Otterbein where she was a Eucharistic Minister & a member of the choir. In addition to her activities at the Church, Arlene was also a member of the Red Hat Society, TOPS, Tecumseh Home Economics Club, Church of Women's United, Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority & was also a Hospice volunteer. A lifelong Purdue fan Arlene & her sister could be seen in their Boilermaker attire cheering on the Women's Basketball team where they had season tickets for many years. An avid card player she was always available whenever someone was looking for a fourth to play Bridge or Euchre. She also enjoyed a game of UNO or Skip-Bo with the Grandchildren or Great-Grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by 6 Children, Julia Smith, Bob (Sylvana) Smith, Linda Smith, Steve Smith, Alicia (Mark) Tassaro & Phyllis (Anthony) Bitner, 23 Grandchildren, 31 Great-Grandchildren & numerous Nieces & Nephews. She is preceded in death by a Daughter, Valerie Smith, her 2 Brothers, Donald & Larry Leuck & her Sister Barbara Jean Schmidt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM, Friday, September 22, 2023, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 108 N. Meadow St., Otterbein, IN 47970, with Father Robert Klemme officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dunnington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dunnington & mailed to Mark Flook, 1616 South 600 West, Fowler, IN 47944.
