Barbara Jean (Leuck) (Snelling) (Mitchell) Schmidt , 91, Lafayette, died, Monday, May 17, 2021. She was born March 22, 1930, In Iroquois Co, IL, to the late Lawrence & Barbara (Pitstick) Leuck. She attended St. Mary's elementary & was a 1948 Graduate of Ambia High School. She married Ralph Snelling, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dunnington. For 21 years they owned & operated Snelling Farm Service, in Boswell. Ralph died in 1977. Barbara Jean married, Earl Mitchell, in 1980; he died in 1994. She married Richard Schmidt, in 2001; he died in 2004. After high school Barbara Jean worked for Corn Belt & Moews seed Companies & at Purdue University. Barbara Jean resided in rural Warren County, for 21 years; until moving to Lafayette in 2001. She taught 4-H Dog Obedience & trained & shoed Toy Poodles, winning many trophies. She loved nature & enjoyed many summers at Lake Vermillion, in Minnesota. Barbara Jean volunteer joys were with Area IV Council on aging & St Elizabeth Hospice. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dunnington, NCCW, DCCW, Church Women United, Red Hat Society & Tops.

Barbara Jean is survived by a Sister, Arlene Smith & a large extended family. She is preceded in death by 2 Brothers, Donald & Larry Leuck.

Visitation will be, Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 10 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 AM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2960 S. State Road 71, Fowler, IN, with Father Peter Vanderkolk officiating. Rosary will be at 10:45 AM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dunnington.
