Betty J. (Greene) Elkins , 102, of Ambia, IN went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2023 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette, IN. She was born on March 21, 1921 in Hoopeston, IL to the late Lee and Leone (Shane) Greene. She had one brother Charles Greene. She graduated from John Greer High School in 1939. Her favorite High School memory was playing the trumpet in the band. She married Frank E. Elkins on January 27, 1946 in her parents' home in Hoopeston. They lived in Ambia where they raised their family and operated Ambia Oil Company. Frank and Betty enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Frank's death on March 20, 2000. Betty was a member of the Ambia Christian Church where she was the Church organist and Sunday School teacher for many years. She then attended Oxford Church of Christ where she continued to play the organ. Betty spent time each day reading God's Word. Her Bible was well used. She loved living in Ambia and being a part of the community. She was a member of the Ambia Woman's Club, and was a 4-H Leader for many years.  Betty was a skillful seamstress and made beautiful clothing for her family. She was a passionate fan of the Chicago Cubs and Illinois sports. She loved her family very much. She raised two children, Frank E (Bonnie) Elkins II, Davenport, IA and Jean Ann (Don) McKinnis, Otterbein, IN. She will be missed by grandchildren Jill (Brian) Graham, Elliott (Lissa) McKinnis, Neil (Dana) McKinnis, Tara Elkins, and Lela (Eric) Hamann. She was blessed with 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was close with a special niece Sandra Mullen. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, a brother William Lee Greene (at birth), a son Robert Lee Elkins (at birth), a brother and sister-in- law Charles and Nora Greene, and a grandson Frank Thrift. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 27 at 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Church of Christ, 402 N 5th St, Oxford, IN. Larry McMillan will be officiating.
