On Saturday, June 25, 2022, Reverend C. Jack Scott , 84, beloved husband, father, Papaw, pastor, coach & friend to many; heard the words, "WELL DONE. Enter the Joy of your Lord."

Jack was born July 31, 1937, in Crawfordsville, IN, the son of William Edgar & Inez (Royer) Scott. Oxford, IN, was his favorite childhood home, while Monon, Union Mills & Clay City, also created childhood memories. He loved playing sports; basketball & baseball were his favorites & he was pretty good at both. Good enough to play semi-pro ball with the White Sox farm team. His early work years were as Block's Department store employee, a construction worker & a sales representative for Egyptian Lacquer. He attended Indiana University, Western Michigan University & Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary; where he received a Pastoral Counseling degree & a Masters of Divinity. He became an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. He married the love & joy of his life; Suzy (Ingelman) on September 8 ^th , 1962. In almost 60 years they created a wonderful life & family together. His legacy will continue with her.

Jack was writing a book & this is an excerpt:

"Around 1966 God became a reality for me. I began a journey, conscious awareness of the reality of who HE is. God is my Creator and Sustainer. HE who has given me life, & HE who has hold on my life, & HE who allows me to make decisions. I believe in God's perfect will, & God's permissive will. I believe this: "we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)"

His ministry spanned 54 years beginning with the United Methodist Church. This included building plans for 5 churches & growing many congregations. The countless souls he led to Jesus, the life-long friendships that became family & the youth he encouraged are immeasurable. The churches  he served include: Girard, Michigan, Lamoille, IL, Perkins Grove, IL, Galesburg, MI, Grand Rapids, MI, (Olivet UM), Otterbein, IN, Huntertown, IN, Warsaw, IN, Columbia City, IN. Churches he served in part-time retirement are Goodland, IN & Morocco, IN. Churches served as a volunteer: University Church, Lafayette, IN & Forever Grace, Montmorenci, IN. In 1968, he quickly learned that he had a passion, joy & love for working with youth. Pouring his heart into Christian Athletic Camp for many years was also one of his passions. There will be many stories campers will share about Rev. Jack. His other ministries included the Covered Bridge Retreat; Youth Seminars in New York & Washington, DC. Rev. C. Jack Scott was beginning to write a book about his life, ministry and family. The words he has already written will express his faith & hope in this world. His love for his family & friends. Mostly, how very important was his faith & relationship with God. He had many hobbies & passions. He loved to fish & to tell fishing stories. He shared this with his close friends, son & grandsons. He loved watching sports of all kinds. He attended countless baseball, volleyball, basketball, track meets, golf & youth baseball games of all his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He was there in the stands if he could be. He loved coaching and in his heart he was still a coach.

"Herald" the angel was his alter ego that he shared in every church he served. He would say, "every church needs an angel." He had the most wonderful sense of humor. He could tell a great joke & his sermons usually contained at least one. He saved all of the sermons he wrote; mostly all handwritten. This will be an on-going gift for his family & friends.

Jack is survived by his wife Suzy, children Brian (Shannon) Scott, Lafayette, Jodi (Brad Sondgerath), Otterbein & Tammey (Bill Lindblom) West Lafayette. He was a loving, gentle, caring, wisdom-giving father & Papaw. He had a special relationship with each & every one of his family. Grandchildren: Camron, Kelsey, Cole, Kenzie, Joshua, Caitlin, Ashlee, Austin, Kyle & C.J.; he loved them all fiercely & was their champion in all things. His 20 great-grandchildren were also lucky to feel his love. He was already attending their activities & this gave him joy. Also surviving: 2 brothers, William Scott & Jerry Scott, 2 sisters, Diana (Ray) Tabert & Phyllis Hughes & a Sister-in-law Sally (Will) Miller & numerous nieces & nephews & great nieces & nephews.

Under the care & direction of Shoemaker Funeral Home, the family will receive friends Thursday, June 30 ^th , 2022, from 4 to 8 pm at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 405 E. Oxford St., Otterbein, IN. The celebration of Jack's life will be Friday, July 1 ^st 2022, at 11 am, also at Otterbein United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gary Sims.
