Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Woodlock) Sparenberg, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026; at her home in West Lafayette. She was born September 8, 1938, in Earl Park, to the late Leland J. & Sophie Elizabeth "Bess" (Schwartz) Woodlock. Betty lived a life full of family, faith, and creativity. She fought a brave battle against a Glioblastoma Brain Tumor; before finding her final rest.

Betty attended Freeland Park School during her youth & later furthered her education at the University of Illinois. Her life changed forever when she married the love of her life, John R. Sparenberg, on July 20, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Dunnington, beginning a long partnership rooted in hard work and devotion; he preceded her in death September 11, 2024. Betty & John made their home on a farm near Dunnington, where they raised their children & worked the land until retiring to the Otterbein area.

While she became known for her culinary skills later in life, Betty famously did not know how to cook, when she first got married. She learned quickly & eventually mastered the art of baking. Her Raisin Cream Pie was legendary & was always the first dish to disappear, at any carry-in dinner. But her Banana Cream pie was another story, famously known for never turning out & you had to eat it with a spoon. Betty found great joy in simple pleasures. She loved digging in the dirt while gardening & took particular pride in her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed the outdoors through camping & sitting around campfires & she spent many happy winters soaking up the warmth in Sebring, Florida. If a craft involved a needle, Betty would try it at least once, creating beautiful heirlooms through quilting & counted cross-stitch.

Betty is survived by her 5 Children, Rita A. (Dale) Wolff, Gene (Rita L.) Sparenberg, Merle (Connie) Sparenberg,  Julie (Mike) Braunschweig & Peggy (Clint) Barnard , 16 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren & Brother, Richard Woodlock. Betty was reunited in death with her Husband, John, her Parents & her Brother, Tom Woodlock.

Visitation will be, Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 4 to 8 PM, with Rosary at 4 PM at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Otterbein. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11 AM at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2224 Sacramento Ave, West Lafayette, IN 47906, with Father Daniel Shine officiating. Private Family burial will be at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Dunnington. In Lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic School, 607 N.
