Everette "Tom" Smith passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. He was a man of the Christian faith and most known for his sense of humor and his genuine desire to lend a hand.

Born April 23, 1956 to John and Sophia Saubert Smith, Tom was a lifelong resident of West Lafayette, Indiana. He is survived by his wife Elaine Elijah Smith, daughter Gabrielle Smith, daughter and son-in-law Adrienne and Ryan Maxwell, grandson Conrad, as well as his sister Mary Lou Roberts, step-brothers Floyd "Keith" Devoss and Rick Mayes, step-sisters Vicki Mayes and Brenda Green, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Julia Lake, John Smith, Emma McKinsey, and William Smith.

Tom lived an extraordinary life with his wife, children, and many friends and family. He taught everyone how to transform everyday moments into adventures. He went through life with a mischievous enthusiasm for being original and lived by the motto, "It's not what you have that counts; It's what you do with it."

The visitation and memorial service will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church (405 E Oxford St., Otterbein, IN 47970) and will begin at 4pm on Saturday, July 30, 2022 with the memorial service beginning at 6:30pm. His wish was to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church - Bell Tower Fund. This project was close to his heart and his dearest wish was to see it placed in the tower of a new pavilion at the new church's location. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Otterbein is assisting Tom's family.
