G. Patrick Scherer

On a warm autumn evening, of October 9, 2020, G. Patrick Scherer, died doing what he loved on his beloved family farm. Gone too soon, his genuine smile and generous heart will always be with us. A man of integrity, Pat always put others before himself, especially his family.

Pat was born, June 30, 1945, to the late Theodore Christopher & Anne Elizabeth (Becker) Scherer, the 7th of 9 children. He spent most of his life on the family farm in Dunnington, which was honored with the Hoosier Homestead Farm Award, in 1999. Since the 1870s, the family has owned and operated this farm ground.

On October 16, 1971, he married the love of his life, Deborah. For 49 years they shared the triumphs & the hardships of life, on the farm. Their devotion to one another is a shining example to all. They deeply loved one another & were true partners in every sense of the word. They are the proud of parents Patrick (Stephanie) & Michelle. Throughout his life, Pat's wife and children were at the center of his world.

He is survived by his Granddaughter, Kelsey, 2 Great-Granddaughters, Lauren & Mallory, his Sister, Carol (Barry) Allen, Brother Dan, Sisters & Brother-in-Laws, Brenda (Bill) Voyles, Robert (Deanna) Wise & Jeremy (Connie) Wise & many Nieces & Nephews. He is preceded in death are his Parents, Theodore & Anne, 3 Brothers Jerry, Richard & Butch, 3 Sisters Mary J. Robb, Rita Haynes, Margorie Winstead, Mother & Father-in-Law, Bud & Caroline Wise & Brother-in-Law, Ivan Wise.

Pat passed away doing what he loved. He began shelling corn with his dad at an early age. For 60 years, he worked tirelessly throughout the year, from spring planting through fall harvest. During his 46 year career, Pat farmed full time; while working as manager at the Dunn Grain Elevator, Demeter Inc. & Archer Daniels Midland.

In his down time, during the summer months, Pat & Deb vacationed with their children in the beautiful forests of Tennessee. They enjoyed going to shows, especially the Hatfield's & McCoy's. Always patience, Pat would spend hours watching Deb, as she waited for the perfect photograph of black bears.

A dedicated father, Pat passed down his love of farming to his Son, Patrick. For nearly 40 years, Pat & Patrick were inseparable, working side by side in the shop & in the field. Michelle, aka "Squirt," was at the center of her Daddy's world. A spitting image of her father, they shared many characteristics including, patience, kindness, charity & humility. Pat was a nurturing and supportive father; his children brought him many joys throughout his life.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15 ^, 2020, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2960 S. State Road 71, Fowler, from 10 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 1 PM, with Father Peter Vanderkolk officiating. (Due to the current pandemic, please wear your masks & practice social distancing.)
