Jason David Widgery—beloved father, brother, and U.S Army Veteran—passed away at the age of 46 on March 30th, 2024 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. He is survived by his parents: Kathryn Cain and Steven Cain, his daughters: Jasmine (Laina Bentley) Widgery and Skyler Cooper, his siblings: Hollie (Phillip) Curry, Ryan Cain, and Stephanie (Alex Elman) Cain, his grandparents: Norma French and Glynne Widgery, and his cat, Fred (aka "Bubbas.") He is also survived by his father Kenneth (Dawn) Widgery, his half-sister Katrina Widgery, and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Richard Noble French Jr., Stephen L. Cain, and William Arthur Widgery.

Jason was born to Kenneth and Kathryn in Indianapolis on February 5th, 1978. He attended Tri-County High School in Wolcott, Indiana. During his high school years, Jason received many accolades for his poetry, which was featured in several publications. After receiving his diploma, Jason worked as a maintenance mechanic at Omni Forge Steel Corporation until he enlisted in the U.S Army and joined the Indiana National Guard, where he served for 6 years before being honorably discharged in 2005. He was a member of the United States Army Quartermaster Corps Regiment and the Chaplain's Division, where he served as the Chaplain's assistant.

Jason began raising Skyler as his own in 2001, then welcomed Jasmine into the world in 2002. Jason was a stay-at-home father until 2008, when he decided to return to school. He first attended Ivy Tech in Lafayette, where he received an Industrial Electrician Certificate, an Industrial Technology Technical Certificate, and an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance. He then attended Purdue University, where he majored in Industrial Technology and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Jason spent the remainder of his short life raising his daughter.  When he wasn't spending quality time with her, he could be found cooking, playing video games, watching TV, reading, or hanging out with his kitty. He enjoyed learning about anything he could get his hands on, his favorite subjects being math and physics.  Even more so, he loved passing on as much knowledge as he could to his daughter. He taught her to live by the pillars he lived by himself: to be curious, work hard, and be kind always.

Jason's visitation will be held at 11:30am EST until time of service at 1pm EST at Shoemaker Funeral Home in Otterbein, Indiana on April 6th, 2024, and will be followed by a burial at Oxford Catholic Cemetery in Oxford, Indiana. The service will be an informal setting for all of Jason's loved ones to gather and celebrate his life, so please feel free to dress casually.
