Paul Albert Geswein, 89, of rural Fowler, IN passed away in peace on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus surrounded by his family. Born July 5, 1937 to Clem Geswein and Helen Geswein, Paul was the fourth of seven brothers and one sister. Born at home and raised on the family farm, Paul lived nearly his entire life in Benton County.

Paul's formal education began with the sisters of Saint Mary's School in Dunnington and he graduated from Ambia High School in 1956 embarking directly thereafter into the workforce for the Soil Conservation Service as an equipment operator and surveyor's assistant. In 1963, Paul met and began dating Pamela Ridder of Lafayette. Paul and Pam were married at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in 1965. Soon after, the couple began construction on their new home and welcomed twins, Shawn and Sherry in 1967. A few years later, a second son, Spencer arrived to complete their family. Paul and family attended Saint Mary's through 2010, the year in which Pam was called home to be with our Lord and Paul moved to West Lafayette to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Paul served six years in the Medical Battalion of the Indiana National Guard as he was developing his early career and, in 1977, he made the courageous move to go out on his own starting the Geswein Insurance Agency in Fowler, IN. Paul's unmatched work ethic and honest character provided the foundation for a successful career of nearly thirty years providing a wide range of insurance services to area farmers. Assisted by his sister-in-law, Bonnie Geswein, Paul grew the Geswein Insurance Agency notably. His agency was routinely recognized and rewarded as one of the top five most productive and highly rated agencies in the country.

Paul loved being active and working with his hands. He was known and respected for his willingness and ability to tackle almost any project and always deliver a quality product. From building farm ponds and fixing drainage issues to trimming bushes, surveying farms, sealing driveways, and mending snowmobiles, Paul was a reliable one-stop-shop whenever help was needed. While generally disliking school and academics, Paul reflected with considerable pride on his successful completion of the schooling required to secure both his real estate agent and broker's licenses which he maintained for many years.

Paul was a scratch golfer in his prime and really enjoyed his time on the course. For many years he was something of a fixture at the Benton County Country Club. Paul was an exceptional baseball player in his youth - a catcher. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and a "regular" in his power chair near the backstops of many a field as his grandson, Sieger Geswein, rose through the sport - also as a catcher.

Paul loved snowmobiling, playing cards, and camping where his blackened hot dogs and crispy bacon straight from the fire became almost legendary. More than anything on earth, however, Paul loved his family, including those closest of friends who became like family. Besides Jesus Christ himself, there was not one thing more important to Paul Geswein than his family, for whom he would sacrifice everything.

Paul was an incredibly generous man – silently. He never sought attention or for people to know or approve of his ways. In his final days he said, "I never tried to be generous, but I always tried to be fair." A bit later he followed with, "I've done my best. I just want to arrive in good standing." Paul was a faithful, simple man of honor who carried the name Geswein proudly. He was loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed. "Well done, my good and faithful servant." "Come, share your master's joy." – Matthew 25:23

Paul is survived by his children, Shawn (Brenna) Geswein, Sherry (Kevin) Underwood, and Spencer (Tekoa) Geswein; brothers Ed Geswein, Joe Geswein and Dave Geswein; grandchildren Aaron, Austin, Alexa, Abigail, Samantha, Colton, Lauren, Sawyer, Sterling, and Sieger; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jo Ann Nichols, brothers Clete, Bob, and Bert Geswein, and beloved wife, Pam.

Visitation will be held at the The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2224 Sacramento Ave., West Lafayette, IN 47906, on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 pm. A rosary service will begin at 7:00 pm followed by a memorial to celebrate Paul's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School, 607 N. Washington Ave., Fowler, I 47944.

Paul's Mass of Christian Burial will be announced at a future date and he will be laid to rest privately at the Saint Mary's Cemetery. Please check back for updated mass information.
