Philip B. Reid was the son of Adam and Alice Reid, born May 28, 1953 in Lynchburg, VA. He graduated from Holy Cross Regional High School in 1971 and earned his B.S. in Animal Science from Virginia Tech University in 1975. While at VTU, he was the Charter Member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and member of the Livestock Judging Team. He earned his M.S. degree in Beef Nutrition from Pennsylvania State University in 1977, where he assisted with the Livestock Judging Team. During his career, he worked in sales for Angus Topics and Angus Semen Service, Director of Communications for the American Chianina Association and the Tennessee Cattlemen's Association, and owned his own livestock photography business for over 20 years. For the last 20 years of his career, he has been the Beef Quality Assurance and the Distance Learning Coordinator in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University. During his tenure at Purdue, he also served for the last 18 years as the Faculty Advisor to Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and was awarded the National Advisor of the Year in 2010. The Indiana Forage Council recognized him in 2013 with the Maurice Heath Award. In 2020, he received the Indiana Beef Cattle Association Friend of the Industry Award and the Life-time Achievement Award from West Central Indiana Angus Association in 2021.
