Robert Leroy Slater , 89, of West Lafayette & formerly of Ambia, passed away at home, on July 26, 2022. He was born, March 6, 1933, in Danville, IL to the late Dale & Beulah May (Pence) Slater. Bob was a 1951 graduate of Ambia High School & proudly served two years of active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces. He completed his service as part of the last mule packing team, the 35 ^th Quartermaster Company, in Fort Carson Colorado.

Bob was a lifelong farmer in Benton County, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed fishing & was an avid Cubs baseball and Purdue sports fan. Bob was a member of the former Ambia Christian Church, where he served as both a deacon & an elder.

Bob met the love of his life, Judith Ellen Lemming, on a blind date in 1958. They married in Hedrick, IN, on December 13, 1958 & together they spent 64 years raising & loving their family.

Bob is survived by his Wife, Judy; 2 Daughters, Bonnie (John) Matson & Barbara Slater; 4 Grandchildren, Tyler (Shea) Matson, Logan (Allison) Matson, Erin (Daniel) Grumieaux & Laura (Adam) Barnum & 3 Great-Grandchildren, Carter & Caroline Matson & Calvin Grumieaux.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Lou (Slater) Reynolds.

Visitation will be, Monday, August 1, 2022 from 1 PM until time of services at 3 PM, at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Otterbein, with Gary Ishmiel officiating. Burial will be at Armstrong Chapel Cemetery.
