Warren K. Herbst , 85, of Fowler, passed away peacefully in his home September 18, 2024. The son of the late Joseph & Frieda (Goodman) Herbst, husband to the late Nora (Cookie) Herbst, & father to the late Donald Herbst & Dennis Herbst.

After graduating from Freeland Park High School, Warren enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Germany with the 28th Ordnance Company & later retired from his career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Warren was very proud of his many accomplishments throughout his life of service to prominent associations, churches & committees of Benton & Warren County. In his early life, Warren was appointed Fowler Town Marshall & later was chosen as a Deputy Sheriff in Benton County. He served as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Fowler & later served 2 years Presidency on the Boswell Community Ambulance Board of Directors. Warren was a member of The National Association of Rural Carriers & The Indiana Rural Letter Carrier Association for more than fifty years. He belonged to the American Legion for over forty years & formerly belonged to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, serving two terms as Commander. Warren was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for more than seventy years. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with his late wife Cookie & playing cards, especially euchre & poker.

Warren served on the Parish council at Sacred Heart Church in Fowler, where he married his late wife Nora (Cookie) in 1963. Warren & Cookie had many years of their own adventures, owning and operating The Montgomery Ward Store in Fowler for seven years and owning & operating a restaurant in Sheldon Illinois for several years. In their shared life Warren & Cookie loved to travel, even just "driving around".

Warren was preceded in death by his wife (Cookie) of over 57 years, his two sons Donald J. Herbst & Dennis K. Herbst, his parents, sisters; infant Arlene, Henrietta Messman, Leona Meeks, Roberta Borden & brother Albert Herbst.

Surviving are his brother & sister, Laurence Herbst and Donna Cooley. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Justin Herbst, Natasha (Cole) Elson, Kristyn Garabedian & Brittany (Joey) Lamson & seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be, Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Otterbein, from 11 AM until the time of services, at 1 PM, with Father Robert Klemme officiating.
